About

Be’na xte’ne. (Welcome)

The people of Oaxaca have a deep-rooted tradition of herbal medicine and spiritual healing, guided by Indigenous Zapotec and Mixtec healers known as curanderos and parteras (midwives). Among their most significant therapeutic practices is the temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge ceremony that combines steam and medicinal herbs to detoxify the body, relieve stress, and promote emotional well-being. Oaxaca is also known for its sacred mushrooms, particularly psilocybin-containing fungi, which the Mazatec people—most notably the legendary healer María Sabina—have long used in spiritual and psychological healing ceremonies to address trauma and existential concerns. These traditions reflect a holistic, community-centered approach to well-being, aligning with modern somatic and trauma-informed therapeutic practices that emphasize the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit. My name is Yasharet Lopez Valencia. I am a bilingual, bicultural Indigenous Licensed Clinical Social Worker committed to supporting the Latinx/e community, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts in achieving greater mental and physical well-being. I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Simmons University with a specialization in clinical social work, as well as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from George Fox University with a focus on generalist practice. Grounded in the traditional healing practices of my ancestors, I incorporate culturally rooted wisdom into my therapeutic work to foster holistic healing and growth. My approach is centered on cultural understanding, resilience, and empowerment—supporting clients in boosting motivation, managing stress, breaking through mental barriers, and cultivating a life of balance, purpose, and fulfillment. As a first-generation Latina who immigrated from Oaxaca, Mexico to Portland, Oregon, I carry with me a deep understanding of what it means to grow up between worlds—navigating the complexities of bicultural identity and moving through spaces where our voices are often unheard or overlooked. My roots in a community grounded in tradition, resilience, and a sacred connection to the land have profoundly shaped my therapeutic lens—one that centers healing, balance, and cultural reclamation. Whether you're exploring the nuances of bicultural identity, working through performance anxiety, or managing the emotional toll of physical training, I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where your full self is welcome. I honor the rich cultural narratives my clients bring into the room, ensuring therapy is not only relevant, but deeply resonant with their lived experiences. My goal is to co-create a space where heritage, identity, and personal growth are not only acknowledged, but celebrated and supported. My holistic practice is grounded in culturally responsive, evidence-based approaches, including Somatic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Strengths-Based Perspective, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Narrative Therapy, and psychodynamic principles, among others. With extensive experience supporting survivors of abuse, complex trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression, I provide a trauma-informed and compassionate space for healing. Additionally, I have worked closely with children and families, fostering resilience, restoration, and growth. My goal is to empower individuals on their journey toward healing, fulfillment, and a renewed sense of purpose. It is my hope and honor to walk alongside you as we navigate your story and your healing journey. As a fierce advocate for the BIPOC community, I am deeply committed to breaking down barriers in mental health care. My mission is to ensure that every client feels seen, heard, and supported through culturally attuned, compassionate care. My supervision approach is collaborative, supportive, and uniquely tailored to foster both personal and professional growth. I integrate a bilingual and bicultural Indigenous approach, recognizing the importance of culturally responsive and trauma-informed care. If you're seeking a meaningful and individualized supervision experience that honors diverse perspectives and lived experiences, I’d love to connect with you!
